Michael Bartnicki joined Kelly, Rode & Kelly, LLP in May 2025. A graduate of Hofstra University School of Law, Mr. Bartnicki earned his J.D. in 1999. While at Hofstra, he completed advanced trial advocacy training through the National Institute of Trial Attorneys and was admitted to the New York State Bar in November 1999. He also holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Stony Brook University.
Mr. Bartnicki began his legal career representing plaintiffs in personal injury litigation before transitioning into insurance defense. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Bartnicki worked for the LIRR as a Locomotive Engineer where he was a union representative. In this role, he advocated for injured union workers who were denied benefits after suffering on-the-job injuries and represented them during settlement conferences. He has experience in a wide range of general liability cases from inception through verdict. At present, Mr. Bartnicki is primarily responsible for the defense of lawsuits involving construction site accidents under the New York State Labor Law.
In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Bartnicki brings a wealth of relevant hands-on knowledge from outside the legal field. Prior to his admission to the bar, he worked as an electrician where he gained valuable experience in all phases of electrical construction. Mr. Bartnicki brings a unique blend of legal acumen and real-world insight to his advocacy, shaped by his extensive courtroom experience, long-standing involvement in organized labor, and related work experience. Through his combined legal and labor experience, he brings a practical, results-driven approach to his work.
