Nicholas J. Koppel is an attorney concentrating in medical malpractice defense and complex civil litigation. He manages a diverse caseload of high-exposure medical malpractice matters involving multiple medical specialties. His practice includes evaluating liability and damages, analyzing extensive medical records and discovery materials, collaborating with expert physicians, drafting dispositive motions and expert affirmations, conducting depositions, and preparing cases for trial. He regularly advises insurance carriers regarding litigation strategy, risk assessment, and potential exposure.
While serving as an Associate Attorney with McHenry & Horan, P.C., he managed complex medical malpractice matters requiring detailed evaluation of medical issues, liability exposure, expert opinions, and litigation strategy across numerous healthcare specialties. Prior to joining McHenry & Horan, Mr. Koppel gained extensive litigation experience representing insurers and corporate clients in complex liability matters. He served as an Associate Attorney at Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP, handling high-value litigation involving premises liability, Labor Law, motor vehicle, and general liability claims. Earlier in his career, he practiced at Keller, O’Reilly & Watson, P.C., where he focused on both medical malpractice and general liability defense, working closely with physicians and medical experts across numerous specialties while litigating complex healthcare-related claims through discovery, motion practice, and deposition proceedings.
Mr. Koppel also brings a unique insurance industry perspective from his tenure as a Technical Specialist with Travelers Indemnity Company, where he managed complex litigated and pre-litigation claims, conducted detailed liability and coverage analyses, and collaborated closely with defense counsel to achieve favorable outcomes for insureds. This combination of litigation and claims-handling experience provides him with a comprehensive understanding of risk evaluation, insurance coverage issues, and defense strategy. Mr. Koppel earned his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.
